Glamping our way through Ballina

Queensland Coast 2023

We woke in our Ballina Glamping tent at Ballina Beach Nature Resort. It’s a great setup. Hot shower, four post bed, dishwasher, swing chair, stove, power points to charge phones and car. Yeah, we know how to camp! Not sure about the efficiency of the air con in the tent, but maybe not much worse than many uninsulated houses. Lovely staff and setting.

We set off south along the south bank of the river, towards our next night’s stop near Kempsey.

Charging

We plugged the car into the power point on the deck of our glamping tent, over night. We didn’t get a full night’s charge, because we got back from dinner in town at about 8pm. In the morning we had about 90% for our new day’s trip.

    1. Martin Harrington We have been pretty fortunate. A couple of dodgy ones along the way but we have also learned to book very last minute to get the best deals too.

      2. We usually have some idea of the general area in which we’ll end up so we make sure to be looking at the specific spot we’d like to stay then venture further out if we have no luck.

  6. Incidentally, staying at Koonwarra… my first attempt at 15a charging from the caravan “power points”. Couldn’t connect the UMC so finished having to use the 15a ext cord, but it’s quite long. How do you manage?. Is there a short ext available?

    1. Chris McMillan Do you mean that you couldn’t get the angled Tesla plug to fit into the cavity containing the 15A caravan socket? Yes, we have found that a little tight sometimes, but managed to squeeze it in. We haven’t yet had to use an extension cord for those.

      2. Chris McMillan Here’s an example of one that was a bit tight:

      3. Tesla Tripping yes the one here is similar but they have a flap on the front, hinged at the top, and it doesn’t angle out very far at the bottom… hence no wriggle room!

      4. Chris McMillan I queried this with an electrical wholesale/retail outlet and they advised that the fixed cable on the 10 or 15 amp plug is able to be flexed quite a lot without any issues
I’ve stayed in dozens of caravan parks in 4 states and the NT over the last 30,000 km and have always managed to use the 15a tail to charge my Model 3
        Hope this helps
