Big Bear Donuts, finally

NSW South Coast + Bright 2023

Arrived in Lakes Entrance, Victoria. We had been thinking about the Big Bear Donuts from a week ago at the donut van in Sale. So, in transit today, Fran preordered donuts from their shop in Lakes Entrance, for pickup at the Tesla navigation’s predicted arrival time. High pressure driving! We may have a problem 🍩.

We stayed in a great cabin at the Eastern Beach Holiday Park. I caught up on a little bit of work (and wine).

We chatted to the couple in the cabin next door, who also had an EV. They were on their way from Tasmania to family on the NSW Central Coast, in Empire Bay, just across the water from where we used to live.

Charging

I asked Kathy at reception if we could charge the car from one of the vacant caravan sites, right in front of our cabin. She was very helpful and friendly, saying this was their first EV charging request. She rang the owner to check. I scheduled charging to start after 10pm, to reduce the peak load. At 15A (3.6kW), it was pretty perfect to have us ready to go in the morning with a full charge.

  1. So they were happy for you to use the power from the unused site at no extra charge for the site, as you were paying for the cabin?
Do most of the CP cabins that you have stayed in have an external power point (I’m not usually in need of 15a, especially if I wasn’t going to be camping in the car, so any 10a would be suitable), or have you had to resort to an extension lead from inside the cabin?
    Happy travels 🍩🙂

    1. Keith Strib Kathy at reception was very helpful and friendly. She said “this is the first time we’ve been asked [about charging an EV]”. She rang the owner, who said: that’s fine, no extra cost, but warned me that it would be very slow. I said it would be perfect for an overnight charge, and thanked her.

When we’ve stayed at cabin parks, they usually don’t have an accessible external power point. One in Airlie Beach was similar, where we plugged into a separate caravan site socket.

We connected at one in Avoca Beach that happened to have an external power point on the deck for a BBQ.

In Dubbo, we just used a powered site with an ensuite, and slept in the car (with a bed and aircon).

      1. Tesla Tripping I’m very comfortable on my camping mattress in my car, even for weeks at a time
I was curious about the cabins for travels when I have a passenger (one without their own swag or tent at least), which will probably happen later this year
Thanks and enjoy your travels 🤜🤛
