Charging an EV is now easier than filling petrol

Charging an EV is easier than filling a car with petrol. We can now just plug in and walk away. Payment is all automatic. Takes ten seconds of my time.

We’ve always been able to do this with Tesla superchargers and with any home charger or power point. But third party fast chargers that require payment have required using an app or tapping a card to start charging.

But now, Evie Networks has listened to customers and enabled “auto charge”. We can just park, plug in and walk away. The charging station recognises our car, and knows our payment details.

To enable auto charge, we had to do one manual charge, and verify who we are, as you can see in the screenshots.

We were in Yara Junction for a walk along the Lilydale Warburton rail trail, and brunch at Nancy's of the Valley. Great day out. Having the option to return to a fully fuelled car is a bonus!

  1. That’s so cool. Well done Evie Networks. Hopefully others will follow suit. But it looks like they’re fast becoming the new market leader and great tech like this will certainly help.

  2. I am struggling to set it up even though I have previously used an Evie charger.

    1. Greg Lewis We had to do one manual charge first (for just a minute). It only lets you select a charge you’ve done since July, to verify your ID.

      1. Tesla Tripping yeah I might have to see if I can find an evie charger in Canberra on the weekend and try again. I did charge on the 17th of August though.

      2. Greg Lewis not all Evie chargers are compatible, this piece of information keeps getting left out, go on their website and search compatible chargers.

I've charged with them twice this month but neither destinations were compatible

  3. Evie Networks please let us add more that one car to an account. Most Australian households have more than one car!

  4. Tesla Tripping how protected is the data and charge session security?. The car transfers its MAC address or its VIN number for vehicle and account ID. I understand that this can be hacked so that fake MAC/VIN can be used. Potentially someone can use a fake number and it gets charged to another account. It may not be as secure as it should be. Secure transactions should have security measures suck as public key infrastructure, 2 factor authentication for example. Nothing of the sort exists for Autocharge currently.

      1. Tesla Tripping i think all DC chargers reads the MAC address during the pre charge initiation handshake . Whether it records it for others to download I dont know
