Tetris-ing four people, a fridge and luggage into a Model 3

Fully Charged + Off-Grid Living 2025

We know our Tesla Model 3 can fit a 50L camp fridge. And we know it will take a large travel suitcase, or four people and some luggage. But we didn’t know if it would take all that at the same time. It took a fair bit of Tetris-ing, and the boot strained at the seams, but we managed to get everything in. I think we might need a bigger car.

First stop at Eumundi Markets. We parked in the shade and later opened the boot so the fridge had some outlet for the hot air.

Second stop along the highway at Burpengary for some fast food lunch.

Then we delivered Erin and Isaiah to their accommodation in Brisbane before their flight back to Airlie Beach tomorrow.

Charging

We charged up a couple of days ago at Tesla Superchargers while we had dinner. Today, since we stopped along the highway anyway, we plugged into one of the bp pulse fast chargers. After the faf I had the other day with one, I’ve learnt to get the session and payment started in the app first, then plug in. It worked first time. But I wish it was as easy as it is at Tesla and Evie chargers, where I can just plug in and walk away. The payment and session is all automatic.

I would have preferred to stop at an Evie charger along the highway, such as at the fast food service center near Beerwah, but for some reason the Tesla navigation didn’t show that as a charging option. Disappointing.

  1. Over in my suburb! Least the weather was good today. If you had of jumped off the highway there is an Evie charger at the main shopping centre in burpengary & about 100m from them is an ampol charger that is also perfect for trailers with a pull through charger bay

    1. Nick Carney Good to know! I don't understand why the Tesla didn't list the Evie chargers as options.

      1. Tesla Tripping odd that it didn’t, I believe it does on my Y & it definitely does on my EV9.

The best one (fastest) is the Evie 350kw at coochin creek. Bit further north of us on side of highway beside McDonalds

    1. Evert Numan We have ordered a Model Y. But we've also been test driving some other cars. The XPENG G6 is the top alternative so far.

      1. Tesla Tripping The G6 is very popular, I am hearing.

The only things with the G6 that I saw as negatives were that "Ludicrous Feed" had issues getting it to connect to Tesla superchargers and that the energy use seems higher than (even) the Model Y. To most, those would be mere nit-picks.

Good luck with your tests. :)

  3. Tesla Navigation will only show superchargers, it has never shown fast chargers.

You've got the ABRP app yeah, with all the travelling you do?

    1. Kylie Gilroy Hi 👋. Yeah, we use PlugShare, Apple Maps etc, which show all the charging options. But, without CarPlay support, the only option on the big Tesla screen, while driving, is the built in Tesla navigation. It shows third party chargers now, but not all of them, and missing significant ones like the Evie chargers near Beerwah.

      1. Tesla Tripping ahhh ok we haven't used navigation since the last update which I presume is when the 3rd party chargers were added.
