Distracted by The Greatest Doughman

We didnโ€™t get far into our road trip (from Emerald to Uluru), when we were distracted by The Greatest Doughman ๐Ÿฉ.

  7. The Greatest Doughman Hi ๐Ÿ‘‹. I noticed your post about cutting hours due to the rising fuel costs:

Coincidentally, I had previously wondered if you might be better served by a portable battery instead of your petrol generator. Is this something you have considered? It would obviously also save your lungs and ears ๐Ÿ˜‰.

The obvious option is an EV with V2L (vehicle to load), but that's a big outlay, especially for one that could also tow your doughnut van.

I wonder if a viable second option might be to just replace the generator you have with a large battery, like the ones used on houses. I have seen some large used batteries selling for as little as $1000. If an electrician could hook this up for say another $1000, that would be a much cheaper option. You'd recoup the expense pretty quickly in saved fuel.

Do you have any idea how many kWh of energy your van uses each day?

You could charge it at home ready for each day away.

And we could get more doughnuts! ๐Ÿ˜‰

What do you think? I'd be happy to investigate further.
