Driving around, and around, Uluru

Uluru via Stuart Highway 2025

August 2-3: It’s enormous. Photos don’t really capture the size. Amazing experience. The colours, the scope, the remoteness, the contrasts, the culture.

      1. Tesla Tripping did the opposite circuit years back from Tom Price, more dirt roads back then

  3. I've climbed Ayers Rock but it seemed to be long, like a rectangle. Thank for the pictures which show its true shape. N.B. I didn't know there was a road all the way around. Did you have trouble finding recharging stations? This would be a concern for me as my BMW i3 REx only goes about 160km on electric power alone.

    1. Rhys Filbee Yeah, I thought it was a rectangle until I started looking more closely recently.

I don’t think you could get here with 160km range. The longest stretch between viable charging options is probably around 250km. Similar for petrol. But if you have both, in a hybrid, then probably possible.

      1. Tesla Tripping I have the range extended version, which gives me an extra 160 kms, but at a reduced speed of about 85kph on a flat road.

    1. Jd Truong Hi 👋. If we have car issues, we’ll just contact Tesla through the app, and they’ll sort out a tow or whatever. We haven’t had any car issues in 110,000km of EV driving so far. Things can happen, though, like with any car.

The charging near Uluṟu, in Yalara is okay – a few options, just no fast chargers. It works well to charge while parked.

As for charging along the way to get here, check out other posts in Tesla Tripping.
