A snack stop in Cann River

Snowy Mountains + Gippsland 2025–26

Stop for amenities and a snack in Cann River. Just before the long slightly boring stretch westward to Bairnsdale.

Charging

We left Mallacoota fully charged. We didn’t have to charge here in Cann River. The Tesla Navigation suggested later, in Bairnsdale. But we aim to charge whenever/wherever we park. By the time we returned to the car, it was fully charged again, so the navigation adjusted its recommendation – skipping Bairnsdale and aiming for Traralgon.

Total time for us to “wait” during charging: zero.

  1. In two years and 40000km I've waited only twenty minutes for charging. A little planning prevents the need to wait.

    1. Rodney Clark I don’t even plan - just put the destination in the satnav and do what it says (Tesla M3). It has a 400km-ish range so have never had so called “range anxiety”

But charging while lunching is a great way to do long trips.

  2. It's a great spot to stop with young children as the park is right there and a cafe/bakery not too far away, although I seem to remember the food wasn't amazing.

  3. Funny how it works out that way.
Little bit of planning and you fit in in seamlessly.

  4. Yep, pre planning is the go, and with TSLA Superchargers at Bairnsdale, Traralgon, Moe and Pakenham, the trip home would be a breeze. Do you know if you select the “next” supercharger as the next destination, does the car start immediately to precondition the battery, or does it wait until you are a lot closer to the destination charger before preconditioning automatically begins? Just wondering?

    1. Frank Norden I think it most often starts to precondition as we approach the supercharger. But sometimes I think it has started early, then stopped preconditioning before we arrived.
