Bonang Road brought back my motorcycle days

Snowy Mountains + Gippsland 2025–26

Harkening back to my motorcycle days, enjoying the endless curves along the Bonang Road from Tubbut to Orbost, Victoria, leaving the Snowy Mountains. The Tesla handled the drive beautifully. FSD off, for some driving fun. I had to watch out for quite a few sharp dips, barely marked with crayon width paint on the road.

This road has stopping spaces specifically for motorcycles (pictured). Yesterday, I grabbed some groceries in Bombala and noticed the "Welcomes Motorcyclists" sign.

Before we bought our first EV in 2022, we did a lot of motorcycle road trips. As you can see from the photos from a decade ago, we haven't aged at all! 😉.

I'd love to see some "Welcomes EVs" signs in regional places. My stay last night in Tubbut was thanks, in part, to the simple EV changer provided by Gippsland Climate Change Network. They are on to something!

Charging

I'm planning to stop for a break and grab lunch in Orbost. I'll charge at the fast charger while the car is parked anyway.

  1. Did you take a spare tyre or repair kit of some sort?

    1. Ric Bates I have an electric tyre pump, and puncture repair kit. I have a space saver tyre at home, but haven’t been taking it on these road trips (probably will one day for the Nullarbor). We’ve only had one flat tyre in 130,000km, which happened a couple of weeks ago. I just used the Tesla app to get it repaired. See the details in our recent posts.

  2. Done many motorbike rides in that area. Both on roadbikes and adventure bikes. Still have 2 motorcycles but hardly ride them now.

    1. Greg Lewis Hi 👋. I sold my motorbike when we bought our EV. I suddenly felt dirty, filling the driveway with noise and smoke. I might buy an electric motorbike sometime in the future.

      1. Tesla Tripping I put mine on Historic rego in April and have ridden it once. I am about to start leaving the EV at home during the week and going back to riding my pushy to work. Then my wife can use the EV for running around.

  3. Towns need not just welcome signs for motor bikes and RVs but also EVs! Haven't seen on yet.
