Yass Superchargers, in search of services

Our Tesla was planning for us to stop next in Goulburn, but we weren’t going to make it. Unfortunately, the trip planner doesn’t factor in the human bladder. We told it to stop in Yass, at the Tesla Superchargers. There doesn’t seem to be a nearby public toilet, so we ducked into the pub next door.

EV chargers don’t generally have services like windscreen squeegees or air hoses, which is a shame. Fortunately, we carry both with us, so we cleared a layer of bugs off the windshield.

Back on the road, past the wind turbines that gave us the power.

Charging

We were parking anyway, so we might as well charge the car. When we decided, mid drive, to pit stop in Yass, we tapped the chargers icon, and selected the Yass Supercharger from the list. The car started preconditioning the battery for faster charging. We arrived, and just plugged in. Easy.

When we returned, we unplugged and drove off. Realising the full battery, the Tesla updated the trip planner to no longer charge in Goulburn, aiming for further up the highway at Bankstown. It seems that Campbelltown chargers were out of action, which the navigation handled automatically.

  1. Welcome to Yass, the chargers are great and the nearby pubs and cafes have some good food.

I don't use the charger often being on home solar but they are super useful if I need a quick top up for an unexpected trip out of town

    1. Michael Fields I think I just found mine at Supercheap Auto or similar. Rounded sponge on one side, rubber strip on the other, like the ones at service stations, but smaller. And I have a bottle of water packed with it in the frunk.

  4. Wait! The Campbelltown Superchargers are out of action? All of them? But there’s like 12 to 14 chargers.

    1. Paul Roocroft I know. I was also surprised. I didn’t look into it, but I’m guessing they were being serviced or updated? Or maybe a site wide fault?

      2. Kylie Gilroy Hi 👋. The navigation showed none working/available, and directed us to Bankstown. So, we didn’t try at Campbeltown.

      4. Daniel Rond Wow, impressive. Now you just need to get an EV to show them how it’s done! Although you’ll probably mostly charge from the excess free solar from your roof.

Otherwise, we’ll come be the first to charge at the new fast chargers in Guyra!
