Coochin Creek dinner: not many options

NSW → QLD Road Trip 2022–23

After a great day at Australia Zoo and the The Glasshouse Mountains, we stopped up at Coochin Creek. Food options here are McDonald's, Hungry Jack's, some other burger place and Subway. After a small dinner, we were all ready to go, back to our BnB stay in Caloundra

Charging

Unfortunately our Airbnb host didn’t allow car access in the driveway (and therefore no EV charging) but they did provide access to a gorgeous golden retriever.

This Evie Networks charger site has two DC fast chargers which makes a huge difference compared to just one at most sites north of here in Queensland. Take note Mark Bailey MP. And it’s powered by the huge solar panel array on the roof and has spaces obviously for expansion.

  1. Even though I didn't need it last weekend, I charged there anyway to support Evie and encourage further roll-out of similar setups.

We will only get more of these if we patronise them.

  2. What kind of AirBnB host doesn't allow car access.. Love that charger set up with the solar roof!

    1. Chris Rollie Yeah, it was unusual. They have small kids that could be endangered by cars coming in and out. No fence between yard and driveway.

Yes, solar roof is great! Dispels any “you’re running on coal” nay sayers if they can actually see the panels. 😉

  3. You guys have brilliant timing. Escaped the flooding up north by a bees whisker.

    1. Peter Selge Yes. We’ve been very fortunate. We could have been marooned around Mackay or Airlie if we had traveled through a few days later.

  4. When I go to Mackay I will be towing a small teardrop van how difficult will it be to charge with the teardrop still on the hitch? I think at Carmila is OK, but other charging stations the van could be hanging out a bit of the car park.

    1. Greg Hayden Good question. Does PlugShare mention compatibility of each site with a trailer? I recall that it should work for Carmila and Cardwell (if no one parks behind you) but not at Ayr or Mackay. Some others you can probably park sideways across multiple spots. Hopefully some of the photos in our blog answer the question about others.

    2. Greg Hayden malborough barely works anyway. In my experience the chargers you could use with it attached are pretty much just carmila. You’ll have to detach to fit in the other ones as they’re in parking lots mostly

  6. Unfortunate that Caloundra Evie didn’t open pre boxing like like was suggested, they have just been sitting turned off for a month today.
