Windscreen replaced at Tesla Mulgrave

We followed the instructions in the Tesla app to bring our Model 3 to the service centre at Mulgrave. Great system.

We were getting the windscreen replaced, because the chip is larger than the 2.5cm limit of repairs and we had elected the extra windscreen cover with NRMA Insurance.

Glad to see that a loan vehicle is standard issue, from Tesla. At the drop off desk, we requested a Model Y, so we could try it out for the day.

We explored the bigger storage space and potential sleeping/camping space. When we first hopped in, it felt like a mini van compared to the Model 3. It felt very high. Easier to get in and out.

More visibility out the front window, due to the height. Less visibility out of the rear window, partly due to the smaller area (which actually wasn’t so bad) but more due to the extra tinting on the rear window.

The roof window visibility is great. We watched some kind of air show (perhaps the Roulettes?) flying over Melbourne while we waited in traffic.

The Model Y is noticeably slower (than our Model 3) to accelerate from the lights, but the thrust kicks in a second or two later, so it still leaves most other vehicles behind.

It’s obviously larger, which we noticed while driving, but it still handles very well.

The Model Y has more speakers connected than the Model 3. We could really hear the difference. We might get two of our extra speakers connected using a third party kit.

So, the Model 3 is sleeker, faster, with a bit more km range. The Model Y is wider, taller, has higher ground clearance, more storage space, is easier to get in and out, has better sound, but is a bit more expensive.

    1. John Myers Range definitely reduces at highway speed, but in our experience we don't really notice, since we mainly just observe the arrival SoC (battery state of charge) percentage that the Tesla navigation predicts.

    1. Rowena Newton This was my first time claiming insurance in decades. The process with NRMA Insurance was okay once I figured out what to do. The process to schedule a service in the Tesla app is seamless.

      1. Tesla Tripping As you might recall, Geoff’s into old cars and we’re going to stick with what we’ve got for the time being but might look into converting our Morris Minor to electric or going Tesla in a few years. I really admire what you’re doing and for getting the word out. So important!
