Planning a Great Ocean Road and Grampians loop

Mobile uploads HQ

We’re thinking of this road trip over the next week or so, from Melbourne down along the Great Ocean Road and back through the Grampians. Any suggestions?

  1. Not sure how comfortable you are on dirt roads, but was in the otways last week and it was amazing, even saw a wile platypus out there

    1. Tim Hards Thanks. Yes, we’ve done our share of unsealed roads, as you might have seen in our posts. I’ll keep an eye out for the Otways.

  2. Think you have to book on the 3 night comedy cruise on the 5th May and help me celebrate my Birthday. We have balcony room on deck 12.

  6. The Royal Mail at Dunkeld is a great spot with destination chargers. A bit on the pricey side though, but they do pub meals or the restaurant. Also a nice bakery in the town that does food.
The Grampians are lovely to visit, whether you do a winery, walking track, or just driving the roads.

    2. James Mackness Tesla Tripping I second the Royal Mail suggestion, however even the bistro at the Royal Mail is difficult to book at short notice. Places available if you can get a room though. Otherwise, there is a deficit of DC fast charging in the Grampians vicinity and between Ballarat and the Grampians. Just requires a bit of thought and planning.

      1. Richard Webb Thanks. Yes, I noticed the absence of fast chargers in the area.

  7. If you’d like to extend your trip to Adelaide, I could suggest a few regenerative / biodynamic wineries around McLaren Vale or theres wind farms and big battery up north or other places depending what you might be interested in

  8. If you’re stopping overnight in Bendigo, the Central Deborah Motel has two Tesla destination chargers. Very clean, well appointed (for a motel) rooms and very friendly, helpful staff. You can even order good pub food from the hotel across the road hand delivered to your room. Recommended.

  9. Ballarat has fast charges at Big W and Tesla only charges at Wendouree. Also Warrenheip just outside (heading to Melbourne) has charges at the Coles Servo. There are meant to be fast charges at Gellong by the waterfront but when we visited last weekend we took the old Xtrail as we were not sure about location etc and forgot to go check them out when we got there!
