First time at the Campbelltown Superchargers

Melbourne ↔ Sydney via Gundagai 2023

We left the Central Coast this morning, dropped off one of our kids at Sydney airport, and kept driving south towards Melbourne. We stopped for our first time at the Tesla superchargers in Campbelltown (next to Campbeltown Catholic Club). There are several fast food outlets across the road, but we opted for the nearby Arts Center Cafe.

Charging

It’s so simple that it’s hardly worth mentioning. We entered “Melbourne” into the car’s navigation and it added the charging stop in Campbelltown. The car preconditioned the battery for optimum charging as we approached. We parked, plugged in the cable and walked away to have lunch. It was the first time I’ve seen our car charge (briefly) at its maximum rate of 170kW. The Tesla app notified us when we had enough charge to keep driving, but we stayed and charged a bit longer to finish lunch.

    1. Peter de Groot The charging at the Campbeltown superchargers cost us $27.72. Working backwards, at 66c/kWh that would have been 42kWh. On fast highway driving (least efficient) we get about 360 km per full 60kWh battery, which is about 6km per kWh. So $27.72 got us 42kWh x 6 = 252km, which is 11c per km.

We charged in Gundagai for free, at our accommodation, which is 0c per km.

  2. Tesla Tripping how did you go on those speed humps? I agree that this charging location is perfectly located near the motorway, cafes, fast food, park with play equipment, publix toilets etc etc... but those speed humps need some shaving.

    1. Michael William Carter Fortunately we had seen warnings about the speed bumps in PlugShare. Getting in was okay. But when leaving, one of the high humps is short in length when turning left, so we instead turned right and went around another car park before exiting.

  3. Great to know for eventual first trip interstate. This is the charger we will probably use from Canberra to Sydney

  5. Those are some of the nastiest speed humps I have ever encountered.
Approaching at night I could see the hump but it’s height and approach gradient were quite a shock.
My 3LR is a bit low I would hate to have approached them with a 3P
