House-hunting in Daylesford

Daylesford + Junee 2023

Off to Daylesford for the weekend. You guessed it – looking at potential homes. We drove by a few houses, through Spring Hill, Trentham, then back to Daylesford. Beautiful region. Probably a bit too consistently wet and overcast for us, however.

We stayed at Hotel Frangos, for sleeping, a dinner, and brekky. Lovely country hotel, friendly staff and friendly dogs (not part of the hotel, I think). The car park has an iconic metal gate, but it’s quite narrow, and we just managed to escape bottoming out on the dip.

Francis took precautions against the Italian meatballs.

Charging

We arrived with just 6% battery (as predicted by the navigation), and the usual warnings to charge now, because it’s cold!

There’s only a slow (22kW) DC charger in town. But it’s in a prominent spot in the main street, which catches a lot of interest from passers by, and hopefully demystifies the whole EV thing. We also saw a Mini Cooper and a Kia Niro charging there.

It took about 2.5 hours for us to charge up from 6% to about 96% (our battery is about 60kWh). Did I mention that charger is slow? 😉 But it was perfect for our time to check in, have dinner and settle into our room. 52kWh at 35c/kWh = $18, for nearly a full tank!

  1. How long did you charge at the charger? Did you get enough to get back?

    1. Stewart Anderson We were staying overnight at the hotel. We charged while we checked in, ate dinner etc, for 2.5 hours, to nearly a full tank, ready for driving to house inspections the next morning.

    1. Amy Treacy Possibly. Definitely something away from suburban busyness. Something with nature, such as trees or coast.

  6. Nice place, and quite elevated, so cold and maybe more cloudy climate than where we live.

    1. Kool Bass Yes, we checked out Marysville back in February. See our posts below. Beautiful town. But we were concerned about bushfire and, ironically, cold and wet.

      1. Tesla Tripping yeah, I hear you. But after living here the last 5 years, this is now one of the safest places in Vic in regards to bushfires. There’s nothing left to burn (you may have noticed in town, no trees compared to before the fire) and now all the new government regulations, every single house in town is built to the current code. Everywhere else, you have to get a new house built to the new code as there’s a really high chance it hasn’t been cleaned out by a ‘once in a 100 years bushfire’.

    1. Ross Britton I wish. No. We were looking at the lower end of the price spectrum. $700k to 1.2M, with a loan.

  9. House hunting is fun, we’ve been looking Gippsland way

    1. Julie Costa Ohh, nice. We did comment when passing through that Gippsland looks beautiful in places. Not sure about the weather.

It’s been ten months since we sold our house and went road tripping. After looking at hundreds of houses, the “fun” is expiring.
