Pulled over by police, with expired rego

Daylesford + Junee 2023

We drove from The Blue Mountains to Oberon, where we were pulled over by the police. It seems that our registration has expired! We were kicking ourselves 🤦. The reminder would have been posted to our business address, which we only check every few months, because we are road tripping. But we should have had a calendar reminder for it anyway, or at least just realised. We collected the car on August 31, 2022, but I guess Tesla registered it a few days beforehand.

The officer was very kind. No fine, but he told us we couldn’t drive anywhere until we renewed the registration.

Easy to do, on-line, right? It took us ages to find the CTP (green slip) policy number, since Tesla has organised it originally. NRMA Insurance website told us it was undergoing maintenance. We used the chat feature to get help, which suffered slow responses and the support staff also experienced the maintenance issue.

Thanks to The Hub Pizza for sustenance while we sorted all this out.

Eventually all done, just as a hail storm rolled into town. We copped some small hail on the drive or towards Bathurst. No damage.

  1. I noticed the same with my Y
Picked up 5th August 2022, but rego started on the 4th.
But Services NSW App is kind enough to send a couple reminders.

    1. Ray Virta Unfortunately, since the Service NSW app is linked to my individual details, it doesn’t remind me about the car, which is owned by my business.

  3. Wow, nice weather at Oberon for this time of year. Hope you enjoyed. The road out via the caves can be a little dicey too, but I'm sure the Tesla handled it with ease.

  4. Our car was registered on 7th August and delivered to us on 11th August.

I guess you didn't keep the original registration certificate in your glovebox that should have been in there when you picked the car up 🤪

      1. Tesla Tripping yes but imagine if the cop wasn't nice and had fined you because you didn't have the reminder in your glove box, rego is dearer in NSW I see, mine cost $716 for 12 months.

      4. Tesla Tripping actually if you physically went and got your car your paperwork might not have been in the glovebox, our car was VIP delivered to us 😉 so all the paperwork was in our glovebox

  6. so in the Service NSW app I noticed there is now a notification preference to be notified when rego is due for renewal. Turn that on coz you’ll be even older next year and definitely won’t remember! love from your younger sister - 😂

  8. We had to organise the CTP and rego for our car the other week, and there was some issue with the NRMA page. It would get to a certain point in the process, then just refuse to load the next page.

I was in a hurry at the time, as I needed to get the rego sorted so I could drive to work. I ended up getting the CTP through Allianz. It ended up being about $5 cheaper than NRMA, as well.

I also noticed that the rego was due about 4 days before the anniversary of the date we picked our M3 up.

    1. Rodney Lister Fortunately, the cop didn’t give us a fine. We were very grateful.

We were in Bathurst a few months ago, when we took a few laps of Mount Panorama. Francis was lucky to not get a fine then 😉.

I will post our brief stop in Bathurst shortly.

  13. Too late but you didnt need to go find a ctp number

    Go to the comparison website

    https://www.greenslips.nsw.gov.au/

Headsup for others , our is up for renewal and did the comparison and found the nrma renewal was near $400 over for us

The reason being is the renwal covers anyone 21+ and we are 40+

    1. Peter Johnstone Of really? I didn’t realise that CTP price varied according to driver age. Good to know.

      1. Tesla Tripping yep its one of the questions on the comparison website
Number 1 rule of insurance , never pay the renewal without checking quotes

Otherwise known as the lazy tax

Insurance often has a new policy internet discount which you dont get with the renewals
