Tesla Autopilot through Hume Highway rain

Queensland Coast 2023

Our Tesla’s Autopilot slowed to 90km/h on the Hume Highway, when the heavens opened. It still maintained excellent driving, amidst slowing cars and speeding trucks.

On our way to Holbrook for the night, we stopped for dinner at Oliver's Real Food Gundagai, and enjoyed their new Mexican and vegetarian pockets, with a smoothie.

The rain cleared to show “Jesus Sky”, with the sun’s rays coming through the cloud openings.

Charging

We set the Tesla navigation to stop at the Gundagai Tesla Superchargers, behind Oliver’s. This also allows the car to “precondition” the battery for faster charging. When we arrived, we noticed that the general EV chargers (by Chargefox and The NRMA) were vacant, so we plugged into one of those. This is half the price of the Tesla chargers, but also allowed us to keep an eye on our cat, in the car, in dog mode. I commented in PlugShare that we’d be happy to move if anyone needed the charger, since one of the three was faulty.

Just as we finished eating, a third car arrived – a family in a BMW EV. So, we ran out to tell them that the third charger is faulty. We hopped in our car and drove off, so they could use it.

  1. Oliver's just does not do it for me unfortunately. Have you tried the Sir George pub at Jugiong. There is an NRMA 50kW there - sometimes offlinethough 😞

    1. Biing Yin The pockets were really tasty. No, I don’t think we’ve tried that pub and charger. Thanks for the tip ☺️

    2. Biing Yin yes, Oliver's food is the worst. I usually walk over to the mini food court at the servo.

  2. Any signs you can see Tom of Ampol building some chargers @ Albury St, Holbrook NSW 2644, Australia

I think they were NSW co funded for 4 chargers there

PS jugiong charger is broken again, they're waiting for Tritium parts

    1. Neerav Bhatt I only glanced at the Ampol on the way out of town. I didn’t notice any charger construction there. But PlugShare shows that Tesla is building superchargers there. And, of course, The NRMA has a solitary fast charger near the submarine.

      1. Tesla Tripping thanks. Apparently the NSW Govmt co funded Tesla install at Yass is close to activation so that will help along the Hume as well

  3. Looks like they have moved the Chargefox chargers, They used to be around the back next to the Tesla chargers.

    1. Rodney Lister Yes, Chargefox moved them a free months ago. If I recall correctly, partly because there is a water spring around the back that kept the ground wet.

      1. Tesla Tripping I think it was a sewer leak. It was horrible and boggy.
        Glad they moved it.
