Knoxfield coffee, while we wait for the keys

We’ve spent a couple more weeks in Knoxfield (thank you Helen 🥰), while waiting for our house in Emerald to be ready. We explored some of the local coffee and shopping options. Choco Bean Cafe - Wantirna South (and sometimes Choco Bean Rowville Lakes) have been the regular preferred morning coffee supplier (hi Jenny 👋).

At Knox Civic Center we saw a range of other EVs charging, including this beautiful blue wrapped Tesla Model 3.

Charging

At the moment, we’re mostly parking on the street, so can’t charge from a power point. We charge every few days at one of the local chargers. We’ve so far just used the slow ones (Jolt DC 22kW in Bayswater, Ferntree Gully, Scoresby, free 11kW AC at Knox Civic Center and Knox Shopping Center). There are fast chargers, such as 50kW DC Evie Networks at Stud Shopping Center, but haven’t needed one lately.

All the listed chargers include their own cable, except for the Chargefox charger at Knox City Council. We have the required type 2 cable, but I’m a bit over unpacking and packing the cable into the boot.

The JOLT Charge chargers provide the first 7kWh per day for free, on the default free plan. We have upgraded to the $10 per month plan which includes 10kWh per day. Excess is priced per kWh.

In each case, we just plug in while we’re parked anyway, for shopping, lunch, laptop work, or occasionally watching a YouTube video, such as by Ryan Cowan or Ludicrous Feed.

  1. Does it feel like the need to buy a type 2 to type 2 cable is becoming less of a requirement now? I have one but I’m not sure I’d suggest new EV owners get one.

    1. Dave Kaing We didn’t have a type 2 cable for the first eight months or so, including a trip along the entire east coast of mainland Australia. We didn’t need it, and probably would only have used it twice if we had one. The one we have now is only of genuine use if we have a regular local charger that requires it.

  3. Also check out Micah coffee roasters and Lorna both in Ferntree Gully. And the quarry bakery in upper Ferntree Gully.
